Anupamaa's Madalsa Sharma Interview: Actress Speaks On Nepotism, Social Media Craze, Her Role And More- EXCLUSIVE
Madalsa Sharma, who is currently essaying the character of Kavya in Star Plus' Anupamaa, recently joined us for a candid chat from her TV set. The actress who is being applauded for her role of a second woman in Sudhanshu Pandey's life, revealed to us about her family, especially father-in-law Mithun Chakraborty's reaction to it.

The beautiful actress also said that an actress has to look perfect is a perception and shared her views on the issue of whether having a family background  gets you work in the industry or not. Watch the video interview below:

People are already in love with Kavya. How does it feel?
Yes, people are sending me so many messages telling me how much they love Kavya and I feel totally blessed and lucky to be a part of the show, which is being appreciated by the audience.

Your father-in-law Mithun Chakraborty suggested you to do TV. Does he watch your episodes?
Dad suggested that I should definitely be doing something on TV. Because he feels TV is a vast medium and I totally agree with him as television's reach is unimaginable. Of course, Dad watches my episodes and he totally loves the way my character is written. He actually loves everything about Anupamaa and that makes me feel so happy.

You are playing a second woman in the show and such roles receive a lot of hatred from the audience. Has anything of that sort happened to you?
Kavya's role in the show is not a typical second woman role. There are so many shades to my character. She is today's girl and upfront with everything. She does what she feels right. So, that's why if you see the episodes you will come to know Kavya is only reacting to the situations she is in. Kavya is very positive at the same time she is the one who educates Anupamaa to be independent. And I think my character is justified in such a way that I don't receive any negative comments. In fact, I get comments and messages saying they feel inspired by me. And it makes me feel happy that I am able to give a right message and people are taking it positively.

Nepotism is a big debate in the industry. You agree to this as your mother and father both are from the industry?
Honestly, I feel if you have a filmy background or your parents are from the industry it is definitely easier as compared to those who don't have that kind of contacts to get a meeting done with a director or producer. If you want to meet somebody it becomes easy but again that's stuck to the meeting. To bag a film or not bag a film is something different altogether. Because the producer invests crores of rupees to make a film and to make sure that he doesn't go wrong, he will not cast you on the basis of your family background. At the end of the day when film releases on a Friday, it decides the fate of the film. The audience is so smart these days they judge you purely on the basis of how talented you are. So, like I said, meeting easier ho jaati hai, approach easy ho jaata hai but to bag a film or become successful or not is purely a destiny and your talent.

Was it easier for Madalsa to have a start?
I had decided to become an actress when I was a little girl. In my growing years, I always saw my mom doing films and TV and my father is also a producer, director and writer. And my parents have been extremely supportive. They understand the passion of an actor. Without their support I don't think I would have been able to survive for a long time. My journey started like anybody else's. I started with South, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films. Then I did a Hindi, German and also a Punjabi film. And now I am here.

People also say that having acting skills is not enough to become an actress. Having a beautiful face and body is also important. What is your take on it?
People feel that if you are coming onscreen, you have to look perfect and act in a certain way. All your mannerisms are judged. This is a perception and to an extent it's true also. But at the end, what matters is how you finally conceive the scene. You might be looking gorgeous or phenomenally beautiful but if you are unable to perform then your shelf life shortens. Because whenever a media person writes for you or a critic reviews your work, the first thing they write about is your performance. I personally feel looks are secondary, first you have to make people believe in your skills. If whatever you are doing is looking real to the audience, then you will be accepted as an actor for sure.

Today casting of many actors is dependent on the social media followers they have. Do you feel it is a right way to judge how popular the actor is and cast them?
Yes, I feel social media has become important because people are so smart that they feel with a click of a button you can check somebody's Instagram profile and know what's happening in their life. But again, I don't think your growth is dependent on social media at all. Because there are actors who are doing extremely well in their career and are not on the medium. For me, it only helps people to make themselves visible.

How seriously do you take social media?
Agar main is circle mein padne gayi na so I am going to go mad. Mujhse nahi hoga. Because there is so much pressure on people that even if you are an actor or a non-actor, all get obsessed with this culture. See its a phase, like everything rises to come back down again. And right now social media graph is at its peak but that will not stay for a very long time. But I don't take any sort of pressure that agar aaj ye post nahi kiya to khana hazam kaise hoga.

Now, when you have explored Television, what shows would you like to do other than this?
I would love to explore reality shows although I have done a reality show in the South in the past. Honestly, I am not restricting myself to anything. Any interesting work on my way right from TV or web, I will welcome. Khatron Ke Khiladi is one show I will love to be a part of.
